Wool Scouring

Continued investment has made Haworth scouring one of the highest capacity duel-set scours in the world. With the ability to scour up to 1000T per week which is equivalent to 300,000 sheep fleeces per week.

Scouring at Haworth can be defined by a number of stages:

Raw wool loading

Greasy wool containing wool grease (lanolin), dirt and other vegetable material is loaded onto a large conveyor and pre-blended in an accumulator bin.

Pre-scouring treatment

Excess dirt and vegetable matter is removed from the wool prior to washing without damage to the fibre.

Scouring

The greasy wool is conveyed through a series of temperature controlled wash bowls containing biodegradable detergent which removes the wool greasy and also dirt and debris from the fibres before going through a series of rinse bowls.

Drying

A series of specific temperature controlled dryers dries the wool and a moisture management system provides a best fit for specified moisture regain values requested by a customer.

Wool cleaning technology

A specially designed unit has the ability to suck additional dust and fibrous debris from the scoured wool without damaging or altering the style of the wool.

Packing and quality control

Wool is press packed in bales of approximately 300-350kg and stored. Bales are also cored, tested in-house and also at accredited external laboratories.

Haworth scouring not only prides itself on providing the best quality scoured product, it is also committed to be the most environmentally responsible commission wool scour worldwide.
